It has been a long time since I've written but it has taken a full year for the United States Postal Service to get back to business as usual. After the terrorist attacks a little more than a year ago, life has not been the same. President McCain is telling us that the evidence points to Russia, but most of the country is not so sure. The attack he ordered on Russia was a fiasco. With the number of troops we still have in Iraq, Afghanistan, Nicaragua and Pakistan, launching a military offensive into Russia was simply a bad decision. Our standing in the world continues to deteriorate.
I'm still dring that 2005 Ford Explorer, but ever since Ford went out of business during the depression, I am having trouble finding parts. I'm considering a Toyota. At 67 miles to the gallon, it will make the $9.25 per gallon for gasoline go a little further. I thought the price of gasoline would go down once we started drilling off of the Florida coast. I was wrong. We went on vacation to Fort Lauderdale two years ago, other than a few locals, the tourism industry there has died. I'm hearing this from people I know all the way up and down the East Coast.
It's been hot here. Who ever thought that we'd see 80 degree temperatures in December in the Chicago area?! My community is trying to switch over to wind and solar power, at least partly, but with President McCain continuously vetoing legislation and Vice-President Palin meddling in the business of the Senate, the rules and regulations to get this done are just too cost-prohibitive. The good thing about global warming? My NICOR gas bill is a lot less!
I'm getting a little depressed walking through the downtown area. The vacant buildings are truly saddening. I wish I could sit down with President McCain and ask him where all of the small businesses have gone. The big box stores like Target, Wal-Mart, Festers, Meijer, and EverythingHere are thriving. Of course, without having to provide healthcare, why wouldn't they be thriving. I was in the grocery section of Festers last week and an employee was clearly ill. I told her that if she were sick, she shouldn't be working to infect the rest of us or our food. She said that she couldn't afford to take any time off and she couldn't afford to go to the doctor. She said her $5,000 tax cut from John McCain did her no good since she doesn't make enough to qualify for it.
With the recent Supreme Court ruling, women are being forced to give birth to their rapist's babies. The number of suicides are up here as are domestic violence incidents. This ruling is single-handedly ruining the American family. A local court last week just gave visitation rights to a rapist. These conservative activist judges are out of control.
Well, that's all I have time to write for now. I'm not even sure this letter will get to you with the United State's government's anti-terrorist laws. Every letter is opened and read prior to getting it out of the post office for delivery, part of the reason why it has taken so long to get the US Post Office back up and running.
I keep hearing Republicans say that life would have been worse under a President Obama. I'm not so sure.
I'm neither a Republican nor a Democrat. I'm an Independent. I have no intention of voting for Obama in November, but because I live in a safe state, I don't really have to. I don't normally vote for Democrats, and I have no afilliation with the party. I am just interested in having a little bit of straight talk on McCain.
